48th Annual National Championship Indian Pow Wow

Colorful tribal dance contests, arts & crafts, cultural heritage demonstrations, teepees and Indian food will be part of this years annual National Championship Indian Pow Wow on Friday evening through Sunday afternoon, September 10 - 12, 2010 at Traders Village in Grand Prairie.
Sponsored by the Dallas/Fort Worth Inter-Tribal Association, the two-and a-half day event is free to the public. Several hundred Native Americans, representing dozens of tribes from across the United States, will take part in this colorful celebration of culture and heritage.
Dancers in full regalia of feather, buckskin, beadwork and bells will be competing in many different dance categories for prize money and special awards. The drums will beat for the dancers in the following categories:
Tiny Tots (0-6 yrs), Junior Girls (7-15 yrs
Junior Boys (7-15 yrs)
Men & Women Golden Age (55 yrs and over)
Women (16-54 yrs) Buckskin, Cloth, Fancy Shawl, Jingle Dress
Men (16-54 yrs) Straight, Traditional, Grass, Fancy War Dance
Artist, craftsmen and traders from across the country will showcase their wares and talents in the Indian Arts and Crafts Show in the Green Expo Building. Indian jewelry, pottery, baskets, paintings and other artwork, rugs, clothing, and much more will be exhibited and available for sale to the public.
The Pow Wow teepee exhibit will provide visitors with a close-up look at life with this age-old form of portable shelter. Everyone will want to try the American Indian food, including authentic fry bread, Indian tacos, corn soup and more.
The dance contest will take place on Friday from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 :00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. in the Indian Dance Arena on the west side of the market.
The arts and crafts show and Indian food booths will be open Friday night from 6:00 p.m. to midnight, Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to midnight and on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
There is no admission charge to Traders Village, open every Saturday and Sunday, year round. Parking is only $3.00 per vehicle.
