32nd Annual Native American Championship Pow Wow

A two-day Native American Pow Wow with colorful tribal dance contests, an arts & crafts show, teepees, honoring ceremonies, singing and much more will be part of the 32nd Annual Texas Championship Pow Wow. This annual event is a great time to visit with old friends and make new ones. Plan to join us for this colorful and interesting event, presented by the DFW Inter-Tribal Association, at Traders Village – Houston on Saturday and Sunday, November 12 & 13, 2022.

Several hundred Native Americans, representing dozens of tribes from across the United States, will take part in this celebration of their culture and heritage. The drums will beat for the dancers in full regalia of feathers, buckskin, bells and bead-work competing for prize money and awards in eighteen different dance categories. Spectators will be amazed by the precision and showmanship that even the youngest competitors display in their dancing. Participants will range in age from two-year old toddlers to grandmothers in their 80’s. Dancers will compete for $15,000 in prize money in the following categories:

Tiny Tots, Little Boys, Little Girls, Junior Boys, Junior Girls
Golden Age Men & Ladies
Ladies Cloth, Buckskin, Fancy Shawl and Jingle Dress
Men’s Straight, Traditional, Grass and Fancy

All dance competitions will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (approximately) on Saturday and Sunday at our Pow Wow Arena.

Special morning entertainment, featuring Terry Tsotigh playing his flute and harmonica, will start at 11:30 a.m. each day with Grand Entry at 12:00 noon.

Artists, craftsmen and traders from all over the country will showcase their wares and talents at the arts & crafts show and sale under the Gray Expo. The arts & crafts sale will be open from 10:00 a.m. to sundown each day.

The Indian food booth will serve authentic Native American foods all weekend long. Everyone, spectators and competitors alike, can enjoy authentic Native American fry bread, Indian tacos and more.

Visitors are invited to enjoy a true-to-life experience of days gone by as they wander through the tipi village which provides a close-up look at life with this age-old form of portable shelter.
